Choose the Best Power Bank. Most of us, if not all of us, have devices that we use on a daily basis is that require us to charge them and that’s because those devices are ones that are wireless. We have things like smartphones, tablets, laptops and a bunch of other things that we use heavily and at the same time, they require us to charge them. When our devices need recharging most of us just think of using a USB wall chargers since they’re one of the most used types of charging electronics that’s currently available on the market.
That has changed though, or at least it’s currently changing.
There’s a new type of charging electronic that has grown rapidly in the past few years and it’s called portable chargers. Another famous name for portable chargers is power banks. Portable chargers are exactly what the name implies and that would be the fact that these chargers are able to be portable and basically be taken anywhere that we want to take them. These types of chargers have taken over the charging electronics marketplace very quickly and there are now a lot of companies that sell them.
With so an abundant amount power banks now being sold, it can be confusing to understand what sort of attributes you’re supposed to be looking out for when you go to purchase one. That is why, in this article, I have outlined the main parts that you need to know of to make sure that choosing a portable charger is smooth and results in a quality charger.
Power Capacity of a Power Bank Makes the Experience
Power banks are portable because of their power capacities as they have batteries within them. With that said, there are some power banks that have very few batteries and one that has a lot of batteries inside. This brings us to the two main versions of power banks that are most commonly used among people that use power banks.
Very Small Power Banks
There are power banks that have low power capacities and these are the one that doesn’t use very many batteries at all. In fact, most power banks that have a power capacity ranging from 3,000mAh to 5,000mAh just use a single battery most of the time. Most often, they come in two different form factors: Cylinders or Slim.
The Mini Cylinder power banks are ones that use a Lithium Ion battery and the Slim power banks are ones that use Polymer batteries. If we’re talking about which power bank is most useful in terms of its form factor, it’s most definitely the power Slim form factor of power banks as these types of portable chargers are about the same size as a smartphone; as a result, they’re able to slide right into a pocket.
All that said, this guide isn’t to just give you all the good side of Mini portable chargers because there are a few bad parts and that would be what makes them so portable. Since these power banks have low power capacities, they’re only meant for charging small devices such as smartphones or similar devices. If you charge a tablet or other high capacity device with a Mini power bank then it likely won’t charge it to its full power.
High Capacity Power Banks
Then there are power banks that are very large and heavy. These types of portable chargers are a lot more innovative than ones that have low power capacities that are smaller. Of course, the flaw is what I just stated, with these chargers being larger and heavier as a result of using many batteries.
It’s worth it though, at least if you find the usefulness of having so much power. A high power capacity that’s in the 20,000mAh or even 30,000mAh range can charge devices to full power lots of times over. You can potentially charge smartphones and tablets to full power on just a single charge with some these power banks.
Then there’s the use of many USB ports and that allows you to basically charge numerous of devices at once.
Charging Speeds Matter with Portability Too
Many people think that just because a power bank is portable, that’s all there is to it. Having a portable charger really is magical, however, it’s still just a charger and just like any charger, we would rather not be attached to it. Which is why fast charging speeds are so important with a power bank because we need our devices to be charged up and ready to go as soon as possible.
For Mini, power banks are quite common for the charging speeds to be slow because they use just a single USB port and since they have a low power capacity, it doesn’t take too long to recharge.
When it comes to power banks that have the high power capacity and numerous USB ports then that’s when charging speeds are more important. That’s because there’s a high chance that you’re going to be charging lots of devices at once with power banks like these; each device that you charge should charge quite quickly because if you’re stationed and have somewhere to go, you’re going to want each of the devices that you’re charging at once near their full power.
Take a look at this charging speed criterion below:
1 Amp = Slow Charging
2 Amp = Standard Charging
2.4 Amp = Fast Standard Charging
3.0 Amp = Quick Charge and Type-C
So if you don’t own any Quick Charge or Type-C compatible devices then you should aim for power banks that have each of their USB ports at a charging speed of 2 Amps or 2.4 Amps. That said, it’s absolutely a must to own a power bank with Quick Charge or Type-C tech if you own a compatible device because those types of technologies are able to charge devices at very fast speeds.
Know what Brand you’re Buying from
At the start of this article, I mentioned how there are a lot of companies that are now selling power banks and well it’s true. It’s a good thing because this has to lead to innovation throughout the years and at the same time, there are negatives effects. With having so many companies selling power banks, there are quite a lot of them that sell low quality portable chargers. These types of companies just rely on buzzwords such as: “Fast Charging” or “Smallest Size” and yet their power banks don’t even fit the description.
That is why it’s imperative to read the specifications of a portable charger and to also read customer reviews for the power bank too, so you get an idea of what type of an experience you will get when you purchase a power bank. Knowing the trustworthy brands of power banks is the best way to get a good product.
